The Value of Truth: Democracy and Bad Theory
A persistent theme of the left is the denunciation of right-wing and conservative anti-intelectualism, stressing political commitment with democratic ideas and socially transformative movements. But today is the culturalist rhetoric of the liberal left and progressive activism in the media, academia and political system which constitutes a pervasive force in the degradation of democratic theory. Instead of speaking truth to power, as the true form of action, progressives help power turn a truth into a lie and a lie into a truth, promoting a spiral of negation about the nature of violence which separates the struggle for sexual, racial and economic equality from the concrete social contexts where inequality and the violence against identity are lived.
